Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. (John 8:31)
What does it mean to stay or to “continue in my word”? How can we stay in Christ’s word so that every one of us understands it very well and can say: “yes, I am in Christ, and I know about it”? In our days, everyone from religion says these words “I continue in His word”. They read and even learn the Bible by heart, others go to Bible schools and become pastors, theologians and they all say – we stay in His word. But do they really stay in His word? Do they say the truth? About them it is said: “But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken”. (Jes. 28:13). In order to stay in the word, first of all, this word should not be corrupted/distorted, but should be pure. “For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God…” (2nd Cor. 2:17). “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32)
Everyone should understand himself/herself, whether you stay in the word and live by the word, so that this word is manifested and brings fruit in your life. “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” (2nd Cor. 13:5). It is possible that someone reads the Bible, attends church, but he is not in the Word. That’s why I accent my question: Who is in His word? It is the person, who stays in Christ’s teaching and Christ is inside of him. This is the person, who gives himself completely to Christ, in other words, who lets the Word lead him from the inside of the heart. This is the only thing God wants from us: “I will dwell in them, and walk in them” (2nd Cor. 6:16). The person, who stays in His Word, has God in his first place in his life. It is the role of the soul to let God completely lead him.
We have seen examples, where someone thought of himself as standing strong in faith and being in His word. But over the years it became clear that he was lying to himself and was in fact naked, poor and needy. Paul warns us: “If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked” (2nd Cor. 5:3). To be or to continue in His word means to be born from God and live in God, not turning away from this word to the right or to the left. The word is the anointing. “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him” (1st John 2:27). If someone turns away from this Word, giving himself to something that is not according to Christ, this Word (inside of him) stops to speak and dies. Let this not happen with/among us! Save us God from turning away from our precious faith, which we received not according to our skills or our merits. Through this faith we have salvation, if we remain in Him. With love to everyone.
