In Matthew Chapter 6, Christ said, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Every person gathers/collects something. A person thinks that he gathers in his home, in the shed, perhaps in a decorative box, in an album, or as is in the more modern times: on the disk of a computer. Some gather their rewards/medals that they have received, so as to show themselves off (the pride of the world). Some gather fabrics in the closet (the lust of the eye), etc. And although to a person it seems that he is gathering things in some kind of tangible/physical storage place, in reality, a person gathers in the real storage place, his heart, where he “places” that which he likes, which is precious to him, that which he lives by, what he believes in! This is why when something is stolen or passes (corrupts), a person even experiences pain in the heart, because in reality, it is stored/kept in his heart. For someone this may be their family, career, rewards, etc. And the Bible tells us to gather treasures (that which is valuable to you) in Heaven, where moth and rust do not corrupt it and where thieves do not steal, in other words, it is Eternal. Because everything else on this earth is passing and does not yield eternal life! But how do we gather the Heavenly, how do we gather in Heaven?
In order to gather in your heart (your storage place) treasures in heaven, it first needs to become your treasure! Otherwise, if it does not become your treasure, valuable/precious to you, then a person will not gather it. In fact, he will not be able to, because a person always gathers/collects what he loves, what is dear and precious to him, what he believes in. That is why it is written further that where your treasure is, that is where your heart is also!
I experience that God, by His Great mercy, indeed has revealed and given me the taste of the Heavenly, the taste of His word, it is sweeter than honey!, and it became precious to me and my treasure! It is more valuable to me (worth more!) than anything in this world, and only in this I indeed find joy and peace. And only in this I experience Life! Because “the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17).
However, in order to gain this treasure, one must first find it and then pay the “price” for it. This price is the complete death for yourself and the resurrection in Christ a New being!
“The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field” (Matthew 13:44).
“If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:26-27).
